A campaign to create a destination for visitors, residents and merchants in San Francisco’s Polk Gulch
We want to create a unique place at the intersections of California and Polk Street - a place where they can explore our vibrant merchants, celebrate our neighborhood’s unique history, and where they can safely walk and access transit.
An Opportunity to Highlight a Landmark
California Street from Polk to Van Ness is the western terminus of the California Street Cable Car line - the oldest operating cable car in San Francisco. Our Vision Plan recognizes the unique potential to better highlight this historic landmark, right at the heart of Polk Street, making better use of the public space that is inviting to both tourists and locals alike.
Community Space in the Making
Through a robust outreach process, the feedback is clear - neighbors want public space that is complementary to the vibrant neighborhood. We have an opportunity to build community space that’s reflective of the stories Polk Street has to tell, including important moments in queer history, robust nightlife, live music, and more.
